Parent Training: An Adjustment in Perspective
The purpose of this 2-day workshop is to go beyond "typical" parent training discussions of behavior techniques and instead develop a basic understanding of fundamental behavioral and teaching concepts. This focus will be applicable to reducing or eliminating behavior problems as well as improving skill acquisition within the home and neighborhood. This workshop is designed for parents, adult family members, and others who are responsible for the care and supervision of a child with a disability. The content has been specifically tailored for parents of children with autism, and also is applicable to parents of children across the spectrum of disabilities.
What You'll Learn:
- How to examine behavior in terms of sequences and functional outcomes
- How to expand a "common language" which will assist in problem solving in the home and community settings (and also potentially contribute to a more coordinated effort between home and school)
- How to recognize the effects of the interface of parent behavior with that of the child
- How to develop or expand routines as a means of providing structure and consistency in home and community settings
- How to enhance the coordination of home and school-based efforts
